This paper diseusses on the mechanism of the resistance of alkali-activated slag, alkali-activatedfly-ash, alkali-activated metakaolinite and ordinary Portland cement used as control sample to exteral sulfateattack. Aecelerated test method (i. e. cycles of weting and drying ) and X-ray diffraction ( XRD) analysis ofthe products of alkali-activated cementing materials after external sulfate attack were used in this paper, ltdraws a conclusion that alkali-activated cementing material mortars are broken because of volume expansionproduced external sodium sulfate salt-crystallization in the pore of the mortars, while ordinary Portland cementmortar is broken because of forming gypsum and external sodium sulfate salt-crystallization with volume expan-sion in sodium sulfate solution of 5% concentration.
