According to the motion characteristics of free-falling particle plumes, the mechanism of air ensorment during the free fall of particulate plumes was preliminarily analyzed, and the mixed particle model given by Tomomi and the single particle model given by Ogata were compared with the experimental values of ambient air entrapment. The results show that the simulated values of ambient air uptake in the mixed particulate model are in good agreement with the experimental values, while the predicted values of the single particulate model given by Ogata are lower than the measured values. The experimental results show that the ambient air uptake increases with the extension of the decreasing height of the particulate plume, and decreases with the increase of the density and size of the particles in the particulate stream.
