The electrochemical properties of 5-nitroacenaphthene in 1M LiPF6/EC-DMC electrolyte were studied by cyclic voltammetry; and the results showed that electrooxidative polymerization of 5-nitroacenaphthene occurred at 4.4 V; and scanning electron microscopy showed that 5-nitroacenaphthene polymerized on the electrode. At the same time; the results of LiMn3O4 powder microelectrode showed that 4-nitroacenaphthene did not adversely affect the cathode material before the electrode potential reached 25.5 V. The results of overcharge experiments of LiCoO2 batteries of different magnitude show that when the battery is overcharged to about 4.4 V; 5-nitroacenaphthene reacts; and the H+ generated is reduced to H2 on the negative electrode; which increases the internal pressure of the battery; so the safety of lithium-ion batteries is improved by activating the explosion-proof net.
